VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE POST OF VICE-CHANCELLOR OF THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE ZURU, KEBBI STATE
1. Introduction:
The Federal University of Agriculture Zuru, Kebbi State hereby invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the post of Vice-Chancellor of the University in accordance with the Law establishing the University and the Universities Miscellaneous Act 2003 as amended.
2. Brief History of the Institution.
The Federal University of Agriculture Zuru was established following the assent to its establishment bill by the President, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari GCFR on 25th July, 2019, making it the fourth University of Agriculture in Nigeria and situated in the Northwest region of the country.
The University operates three Colleges with Ten (10) degree awarding programs in Agriculture, Basic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine.
3. Vision:
The Vision of the University is to develop creative, innovative, research-oriented and competent human resource with enthusiasm to service and inspired by entrepreneurship in agriculture and livestock resources.
Mission:
The University is envisaged to be an institutional player in prototypical agricultural skills acquisition as well as entrepreneurship, preoccupied with the task of strengthening human capital and to bridge the gap between human and animal health for effective development of agricultural and livestock resources.
Mandate:
The University’s mandate is to harness agricultural and livestock resources for human development and promote contemporary agricultural technology and advances in Veterinary Medicine through the functional integration of information and communication technology in the teaching, learning, and research environment.
4. JOB DESCRIPTION
The Vice-Chancellor shall be the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University and shall exercise general supervision over it. He/she shall be the Chairman of the Senate and an ex-officio member of the Governing Council and shall be responsible to the Council for the day-to-day management of the university’s human, financial, and material resources.
5. QUALITIES OF THE APPLICANT FOR THE POST
Applicants for the post of the Vice-Chancellor shall possess the following
· Be a distinguished Professor with a demonstrable ability to provide exemplary academic leadership and proven management capacity
· Be a Professor with not less than five (5) years of experience on the rank from the field of Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, or natural sciences
· Be a scholar with a proven track record of scholarship at national and international levels
· Must have a good understanding of the vision, mission, and mandate of the Federal University of Agriculture Zuru
· Be Innovative, capable of inspiring advancement of learning and committed to providing effective leadership
· Have the Capacity for prudent management of resources
· Possess cognate administrative experience
· Have track records that command the respect and loyalty of members of staff and students of the University.
· Have the ability to foster the integration of all without discrimination based on race, color, ethnicity, gender, religion, and other acts of intolerance.
· Be morally sound and of unquestionable integrity and probity
· Must be of a Sound state of health
· Must be Proficient in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
· Have the capacity and ability to generate and attract funds.
6. TENURE
The appointment shall be for a single term of five (5) years only.
7. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
The conditions of service shall be as applicable to the post of Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian Federal Universities.
8. AGE OF APPLICANTS
Eligible candidates should not be more than sixty-five (65) years at the time of assumption of office.
9. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
i. Applicants should forward soft and thirty (30) hard copies of comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV) and photocopies of certificates duly signed and dated by the candidates.
ii. Submit three (3) referee reports, one of which must be from the candidate’s present or former Head of Department.
iii. Thirty (30) copies of a statement of the candidate’s vision of not more than 100 words for the Federal University of Agriculture Zuru.
All applications are to be submitted in a sealed envelope marked at the top left corner “Application for the Post of Vice-Chancellor” to the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Federal University of Agriculture Zuru, PMB 28, Zuru, Kebbi State, Nigeria not later than six (6) weeks from the date of this advertisement.
